After Billy Ray Cyrus’s eyebrow-raising performance of “Achy Breaky Heart” and “Old Town Road” at the 2025 Liberty Ball as part of Donald Trump’s inauguration, people quickly noticed that the singer did not seem like his normal self. Not only was his time on stage filled with technical difficulties, but at one point, Billy Ray stopped playing and asked the audience, “Y’all want me to sing more, or you want me to just get the h*ll off the stage?” This has since raised concerns over the status of Billy Ray’s mental and physical health.
Following his performance that has since hit social media, Trace Cyrus—Billy Ray’s son— took to Instagram, claiming that his father is “not healthy” and “everyone is noticing it.” Trace also said he continues “to pray” for his father’s well-being and would “love to help” him should Billy Ray need it. Keep scrolling to read more about what Trace has to say about his father.
What Trace Cyrus has to say about his father, Billy Ray Cyrus
Trace, 35, was adopted by Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus—the singer’s ex-wife—in 1993. He was 4 years old at the time and was “obsessed” with his father.
“Since my earliest memories, all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever,” Trace wrote on Instagram. “I wanted to be just like you.”
“The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life.”
After his father’s head turning performance, though, Trace said that the “man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now.”
“It seems this world has beaten you down, and it’s become obvious to everyone but you.
Trace continued to say that even though he knows his father “may be upset with me for posting this, I really could care less at this point.”
“As I write this with tears in my eyes, I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon.”
Billy Ray is currently 63 years old, single and has no known health conditions.

Trace Cyrus pleads with Billy Ray
Trace ended his Instagram letter by pleading with his father to get help, even though they “haven’t talked in a while.”
“Just like I showed up for you at Mamaw’s funeral when you didn’t expect me to, I’m still here right now,” he continued. “I don’t know what you’re struggling with exactly, but I think I have a pretty good idea & I’d love to help you if you would open up and receive the help. You know how to reach me. Till that day comes, I will continue to pray for you.”
Trace is currently working as a singer and actor, with his latest release being a country song entitled “On the Run.” He is single and has no children.
