It isn’t surprising that two people as hilarious as Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally found forever in each other. After all, few people match one another’s energy as well as these two. Here, read all about Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally’s love story.

How did Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally meet?

The two actors first crossed paths when they were working on a play together in Los Angeles. Offerman wasn’t charmed by her illustrious television career and credentials, as at the time, he had never even seen Will & Grace. However, it wasn’t long before her wits piqued his interest—and the rest is history.

There was a little bit of a comedy of errors because he asked for my phone number and I gave him my fax number,” she recalled to SundanceTV. “And he left a message on it asking me to go hear some music, it was like a cowboy band. And I didn’t get the message until like two weeks later, so for two whole weeks he thought I just totally iced him.” Luckily, the miscommunication was settled, and the two went on a date—Offerman sporting a pair of yellow overalls, of course—and about three years later, they tied the knot.

Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally sharing the screen

Since getting together, Offerman and Mullally have worked together on the screen multiple times. On Will & Grace, Offerman brought to life the role of Nick the Plumber. I really admired how incredibly militaristically fast and sharp the show was—the four cast members, and Jim Burroughs, the director,” Offerman recalled on PeopleTV’s Couch Surfing as reported by Entertainment Weekly. “Suddenly I’m on the show and I was waiting to make my entrance with my plumber toolbox. Sean Hayes was standing by the door saying ‘Don’t f— this up, Nick. Here it comes, this is your big…don’t mess up.’ I was like, ‘Shut up, Sean! I swear to God, I’m gonna clobber you.’”

On Parks and Recreation, Mullally was Tammy, the ex-wife of Offerman’s character who always brought the heat when she appeared on the show. “Parks & Rec was the first time she played Tammy 2, the first time we got to work together as a team,” Offerman told Buzzfeed. “We often worked together, but never the two of us, and so it was incredible. I felt like I had sort of graduated to play with the big kids. It was incredibly difficult because of all the people in the world, she knows how to push my buttons. So to then put that in a scene where she’s funny and I’m not supposed to laugh at her was an incredibly difficult task, and sometimes I succeeded.”

The couple have joined forces in countless other ventures including additional movies as well as a joint memoir, The Greatest Love Story Ever Told: An Oral History.

How Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally keep the spark alive

Despite being married for over 20 years, the love that exists between this adorable duo is everlasting. We adore each other,” Offerman told PEOPLE. “We’re two human beings so it’s a relationship that requires work and patience and maintenance. I’m sure I drive her up a tree sometimes and that’s when I go and sleep out in the backyard. Then I write her a letter and she lets me back in the house.”
