About Louis Vuitton x Murakami
Louis Vuitton was first founded in 1854 by French box maker and entrepreneur Louis Vuitton, who specialized in making luxury trunks and luggage. The brand expanded quickly, and in 1900, grew to have 100 employees. Now, over a century later, the brand has more than 213,000 employees worldwide. Louis Vuitton is one of the most well-known and sought-after luxury brands in the world, and is instantly recognizable by its signature “LV” monogram logo.
Louis Vuitton’s then-creative director Marc Jacobs sought out Japanese artist Takashi Murakami in the early 2000s for the brand’s Spring 2003 collection. The colorful “LV” logo that came from the collaboration on the brand’s most classic styles decorated the runway and exploded in popularity, quickly becoming what is now one of the most legendary and historic collaborations in Louis Vuitton’s history. Aside from the colorful monograms, LV x Murakami also included the iconic cherry blossom face and other characters that adorned the bags, which have been rumored to also return later this year.
During the early to mid-2000s, you would find Louis Vuitton x Murakami bags everywhere you looked. They were seen on the arms of some of the most famous “it” girls, including Paris Hilton, Naomi Campbell and even iconic characters like Cady Herron and Regina George from Mean Girls.
The Louis Vuitton x Murakami collaboration went through many different renditions and collections before being officially discontinued in 2015. Now, 10 years later, Louis Vuitton and Murakami have partnered up again to fulfill the dreams of millennials and xennials everywhere.
Additionally, if you happen to have an OG Louis Vuitton x Murakami piece that you no longer wear, now is a great time to sell it. Many of the new pieces are sold out, and designer resale sites like The Real Real and Fashionphile are noticing an uptick in interest of these pieces.
