When we think of football stars dating celebrities, the first thing that most likely comes to mind are Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. But it turns out there is another one: Buffalo Bills starting quarterback Josh Allen and Oscar-nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld! Who is Josh Allen? Inside the NFL star’s rise to fame
Allen is a quarterback originally from Firebaugh, California, who went on to play for the University of Wyoming before eventually being drafted into the National Football League (NFL).
“One thing I’d like to point out, while at Wyoming, we won games, and I definitely think that’s how quarterbacks are judged in the NFL,” Allen said in 2018.
Initially, post-college, Allen wanted to be drafted by the Cleveland Browns, claiming that he could “Be the guy that turns around the Browns.” Sadly, though, he never made it to the Browns and was instead signed by the Buffalo Bills in 2018.
“The only thing I’ve ever wanted to do is play professional football and be a professional quarterback, so now that it’s here and it’s getting close, it’s just kind of making all that pain and suffering and waiting and working hard worth it,” Allen said of being drafted.
After being picked in 2018, Allen has remained in Buffalo and hopes to bring them home for their first-ever Super Bowl win in 2025.
To do that, though, the Bills will have to beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday’s AFC Championship game, a team they lost to during the regular season.
“I can’t tell you [if the outcome will be different],” Allen said of the game after his win against the Ravens on January 19. “I just know we’re going to work hard. We’re going to have a heck of a week. We’re going to enjoy this one tonight. Turn our attention to the Chiefs tomorrow. We know what they are. They’re the perennial of what you want to be in the NFL. You gotta beat them to get past them.”
If the Bills do beat the Chiefs and go to The Super Bowl, they will either play the Washington Commanders or the Philadelphia Eagles, depending on who wins the NFC Championship game, which is also on Sunday.
Who is Hailee Steinfeld? Actress, singer and triple threat
Hailee Steinfeld, 28, is a Los Angeles-based actress and singer best known for projects like Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) and Hawkeye (2021). She has also released several chart-topping hit singles like “Starving” (2015) and “Love Myself” (2015).
“I think as a musician performing, it really is solely me, whereas playing a character, you’re masked by that character and any mistake you make you can get away with by saying it was a choice,” Steinfeld said of the differences in her career. “The hardest part for me is getting off stage and realizing, ‘How long until I can do that again so I can perfect what I missed?’
“I think I’m always going to feel that way about anything that I do, but the idea of it really being me and also that people don’t know who I am and this is how they’re getting to know me, it’s scary because if you mess up, obviously we don’t live in a very gentle world, so everything gets pointed out. I think as long as I remind myself of why I do it and I don’t lose that feeling I get when I’m up there that I love so much, I’ll be fine.”
Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld’s love story: from dating to engagement
Allen and Steinfeld first sparked dating rumors back in May 2023 when they were spotted having dinner together in New York City. They were subsequently seen several more times together, including at an October 2023 football game, before making things Instagram official in July 2024.
The two then announced their engagement in November 2024 on Instagram.
“I think I was most nervous about you finding out about the proposal,” Allen told Steinfeld in 2024. “It was hard to keep secrets from you and have other people in your life keep secrets from you. Then, multiple times throughout the day, a song would come on and I would tear up thinking about how special our day was going to be.”
“You were extremely surprised. You said yes, and that was all that mattered to me. And the sun was out.”
Allen ended his statement by letting the world know, “It feels unbelievable to be engaged to someone who is so special and loving and caring and gorgeous and fun and happy.”
