How Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson’s relationship began
Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson began dating in July 2010, four years after her divorce from Nick Lachey. Johnson was still married to Keri D’Angelo at that time, but they had been separated since October 2009.
“We connected on all levels,” Simpson wrote in her 2020 memoir Open Book. “We both were ready for the real deal.”
The pair went on to get engaged in November 2010, just five months after going public with their relationship. Simpson was 31 and Johnson was 32 at the time.
“I actually had to sit on his knee. I was so shocked,” Simpson said at the time. “I said yes, and we both definitely were teary-eyed. I didn’t even try the ring on until like, five minutes in. I was so shocked, just kind of sat there and cried with him.”
Before their engagement, Simpson had already picked out her ring, saying that she had “already done the traditional thing, so I just wanted to do something that was different.”
After a four-year engagement, Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson married in a beautiful ceremony in July 2014.
“We are overwhelmed with complete happiness and love having made our eternal commitment,” Simpson said at the time of their wedding. “To say ‘I do’ in front of family, friends and most importantly, our children has been the happiest moment of our lives.”
Following that, Simpson also said that she credits Johnson for helping her get sober, writing in her memoir, “Eric gave up drinking the second I did. He said, ‘I’ll do it with you, baby.’ It was like no biggie, and he hasn’t gone back or looked back.”
It is believed that the former couple has been alcohol-free ever since.
Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson’s journey to parenthood
Simpson and Johnson first became parents in May 2012, two years before their wedding.

The two then welcomed their second child in June 2013, a son named Ace Knute.
“I didn’t grow up with a brother, and I think the unknown is really exciting,” Simpson said in 2013. “I can’t wait to have that connection with our little man.”
Finally, in March 2019, Simpson and Johnson welcomed a daughter named Birdie Mae, with the singer and actress writing on Instagram, “We are so happy and proud to announce the birth of our perfect daughter, Birdie Mae Johnson.”
