Theater fans across the world are in awe of one of Hollywood’s newest rumored couples—and we don’t blame them! Though news of their coupling has only just begun circulating, Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster go way back and have worked alongside one another on the stage in the past. Who is Sutton Foster?
While some might be familiar with Sutton Foster thanks to her illustrious career on the stage, others might recognize her for her television work. Foster led the television series Bunheads back in 2012, and also made a splash on the hit series Younger. No surprise was her television success, as prior to hitting the small screen, she proved her acting chops on the stage. Foster has appeared in some of the most notable shows to hit Broadway, and twice took home a Tony Award—once for Best Actress in Thoroughly Modern Millie and again for Best Actress in Anything Goes. Though the starlet was married to screenwriter Ted Griffin back in 2014, this past October, the couple filed for divorce.

It’s safe to consider this Australian hunk a household name—he’s Wolverine, after all. Not only has Hugh Jackman starred in some of the most popular movies of the last century, including Les Miserables (2012), X-Men (2000), The Greatest Showman (2017), Prisoners (2013), The Prestige (2006) and countless others, but he too found much success on the stage as well thanks to both his acting chops and his impressive vocals. Jackman has also taken home a Tony Award.
The actor was married to Deborra-Lee Furness, an Australian actress, who he met while working on the television series Correlli, and after adopting two children together over the years and enjoying several decades together, they went their separate ways in 2023. “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” they said in a statement to PEOPLE following their split. “Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”
Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster: what we know so far
Though this couple has only recently sparked romance rumors, this isn’t the first time that they’ve linked up. Their paths have crossed as far back as the early 2000s, but it wasn’t until 2019 that they formed a professional relationship once news broke that they would be co-starring in The Music Man on Broadway. Though COVID put the show on pause, it resumed in 2022, running until January 2023. During and after their joint run in the show, the duo never shied away from singing each other’s praises.
“He’s one of the greatest guys ever, an incredible co-star,” Sutton Foster told PEOPLE this past June. During their run of The Music Man, Foster revealed that the duo had a pre-show ritual where they would sit on the carpet of her dressing room and talk about life. “It’s such a wonderful thing, and we’ve become really good friends…It’s become one of the best parts of the whole thing is that I’ve made this wonderful new friend,” she said on Live With Kelly and Ryan.
Since those days, the duo seems to have progressed beyond platonic friendship, as over the last few weeks, they’ve been spotted hand in hand out and about, while also attending performances put on by one another and even house-hunting.
