Setting out a charcuterie or antipasti board for guests to nosh on during New Year’s Eve is a surefire way to keep guests happy just before the big countdown. Plus, you can create an eye-catching spread with little effort by arranging slices of cured meat like salami into a rose. A salami rose elevates your charcuterie board, no different than the actual flower. Everyone will wonder how you pulled it off—and the answer is simple: a wine glass. Using this kitchen staple allows you to form the rose in just a couple of minutes. Keep reading for an easy guide on how to make a salami rose that adds a decorative touch to your appetizer spread.
How many salami does it take to make a rose?
Since making a salami rose doesn’t involve additional ingredients, it’s worth exploring how much meat you’ll actually need. This may vary depending on the size of the salami and how big or small you want the final rose to be. The butchers at Heatherlea Farm found 11 to 16 slices to be enough for a large rose and four to six slices for a small rose. So, use that as a rule of thumb when buying the meat and crafting it into a rose.
Can salami roses be made ahead of time?
What’s also great about salami roses is that they can be prepared in advance. To do this, simply form each rose, place it on a plate and cover it. Keep the meat refrigerated until it’s time to serve, and then you can place the rose alongside any other meats, cheeses, olives and condiments on the charcuterie board.
How to make a salami rose using this easy method
Blogger JaCee Pilkington Petko shares a simple method for creating a salami rose with a wine glass on her Instagram. Follow the steps below as it takes less than five minutes to do.
- Open package(s) of sliced salami. (Bonus: We love the Sliced Italian Dry Salami from Columbus Craft Meats as the slow curing process creates a rich flavor and aroma.)
- Take a small or large wine glass and layer each slice over the lip of a stemless wine glass until it’s nearly covered.
- Once all the slices are on the glass, gently turn the glass upside down on the charcuterie board to reveal the salami rose.
- Repeat process if you making more than one rose.
And voilà! You’ve turned regular slices of salami into a work of art. Be sure to keep a small pair of serving tongs next to the platter, to make grabbing a piece of salami a breeze. Also, snap a couple photos beforehand of your edible masterpiece to share online with friends and family.
