A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, a new story emerged to expand the Star Wars universe. Its plot remained a mystery for quite some time, but now, fellow Jedi, we finally know what the illustrious Empire has been hiding from us. Here’s everything we know about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
‘Skeleton Crew’ brings ‘80s nostalgia to the ‘Star Wars’ galaxy
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is set in the timeframe between Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. It follows a group of kids who get lost in the Star Wars galaxy during the New Republic Era after making a shocking discovery on their home planet. Now, the kids must figure out how to get home before it’s too late.
“I think it’s really unique that this series is led by children, because children bring a certain wide-eyed wonder to the Star Wars galaxy that I feel like adults might not,” star Ravi Cabot-Conyers, age 13, who plays Wim said. “I feel like we, the kids, brought so much energy and lightheartedness to the set.”
Cabot-Conyers also revealed that he and his fellow cast members watched a lot of ’80s television to prepare.
“I was familiar with Stranger Things. Actually, my co-stars and I, the kids, would watch Stranger Things in between shooting days, on the weekends, and stuff,” the actor said. “We were really into it. We also watched all those ‘80s-style, Amblin-style films, Steven Spielberg, ET, Goonies, etc., and we watched them in preparation.”
Meet the cast of ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’: From Jude Law to rising stars
In addition to Cabot-Conyers, the cast includes Kerry Condon (Fara), Tunde Adebimpe (Wendle), Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Fern), Robert Timothy Smith (Neel), Jaleel White (Gunter), Kyriana Kratter (KB), Nick Frost (SM 33) and The Talented Mr. Ripley star Jude Law (Jod Na Nawood).
“He [Law] was so amazing. Like, I can’t even—it’s hard to describe. He’s such a generous scene partner and so giving,” Cabot-Conyers enthused. “He’s so grounded… He’s respectful to the directors and his co-stars. And you know, he’s really able to stay focused in between takes… In addition to being such a fantastic actor, he’s such a nice guy.”
“Even if it wasn’t my scene and I happened to be on set on the same day as him, I would sneak on and go look on the monitors and see him work, because it really was so interesting and so much fun. And I think that everyone else around us had such a fun time watching him and us work all together.”
Law himself has even opened up about the show, sharing just how much being involved has meant to him.
“I love the concept. I loved the idea of making kids the protagonists because it sort of drew on the innocence and added a little bit of playfulness back into the experience,” the actor said. “[Star Wars] has been in my life since I was an infant and so the galaxy, for all its vastness, was weirdly like going home. I was like, ‘I know this place, I know these creatures.’”
What ‘Star Wars’ cameos to expect in ‘Skeleton Crew’
As for now, it remains unclear if any former Star Wars characters will be making an appearance in the new show. In the past, there have been cameos in shows like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, but we won’t spoil who they were or why they appeared.
