Exciting news for Cher fans! The legendary ‘I Got You Babe’ singer’s memoir Cher: The Memoir, Part One is arriving this month—and she just announced an audio version! Cher recently revealed she is narrating her audiobook alongside Tony Award-winning actress Stephanie J. Block—who brought the singer to life in the hit Broadway musical The Cher Show in 2018. Keep scrolling for more details on the announcement, including what Cher has to say and what her memoir will be about!
All about Cher’s audiobook
Cher’s forthcoming memoir—appropriately entitled Cher—is expected to be released on Tuesday, November 19. The audiobook version will be released on the same day.
“I knew I wouldn’t be able to do it all myself,” Cher stated. “I knew she [Block] would be the perfect choice to get across to the reader the essence of me. I called her, and within hours, she rearranged her schedule to start the recording.”
“I felt so safe having her help share my story, and she did a beautiful job.”
Cher is reportedly going to introduce each chapter, and Block will join her afterward to help co-narrate everything the singer has written about her life thus far.
“Lending my voice to help Cher deliver the memoir has been an honor and a thrill,” Block said. “Her life is fascinating, glamorous, surprising, exciting—and at times, completely heartbreaking. Her story is a beautiful balance of ultimate stardom and accessibility. She is Cher for a reason, and this book helps the reader get behind ‘the reason.’”
Aside from her award-winning work in The Cher Show, Block is best known for The Boy in Oz as well as her podcast Stages, which she co-hosts with Marylee Graffeo Fairbanks, co-producer of The Outsiders, which recently won the Tony Award for Best Musical.
What does Cher write about in her memoir?
The book chronicles the singer’s extraordinary life in music and show business across decades. Beginning with her childhood battle with dyslexia, the singer takes readers along for the ride as she recalls details on uncovering her dream of being a singer, her marriage to Sonny Bono, their hit TV show and so much more.
Since Cher’s life has been so memorable, the singer will release it in two parts, with the second one released sometime in the fall of 2025.
How does Cher feel about her memoir?
For the most part, the singer has chosen to remain pretty tight-lipped about writing and releasing her upcoming memoir. But in a 2023 interview with Jimmy Fallon, she admitted to being scared of just how much information she needed to include.
“I just totally chickened out,” Cher confessed. “I didn’t put in some things that needed to be put in. And they’re not comfortable, but they need to be put in, so I have to go back and man up.”
She also admitted that since her life has been such a wild ride, the book could theoretically be longer than it is.
“I’ve lived too long and done too much, and so it’s like it should be the encyclopedia,” the singer said before joking, “Not that you guys know what that is.”
Cher is, in fact, going on tour for her memoir and is expected to stop in New York City, New Jersey, London, Beverly Hills and San Francisco.
Cher will be available on 11/19. Pre-order your copy of the book here.
