The cult favorite ’90s and early ’00s show Charmed is beloved for its depiction of witchy sisterhood, and the drama that went down behind the scenes (namely, the ongoing feud between Alyssa Milano and Shannen Doherty, leading to the latter actress getting fired and ultimately replaced by Rose McGowan) is the stuff of juicy TV legend.
While you likely know about the tensions between the actresses, you might not know about their offscreen love lives. Here’s a deep dive into the relationships of the Charmed cast, featuring controversial stars, annulled marriages, second-chance romances and more.
Alyssa Milano
From 1987 to 1990, Alyssa Milano dated her fellow teen star Corey Haim, though their relationship ran into trouble due to his ongoing problems with addiction, which ultimately led to his untimely death in 2010. She then became engaged to Party of Five actor Scott Wolf in 1993, but they broke it off the next year.
Milano had her first marriage, to Cinjun Tate of the band Remy Zero, in 1999. The marriage wasn’t a success, and they divorced later that same year. Since 2009, Milano has been married to talent agent David Bugliari. They have a son, Milo, and a daughter, Elizabella.
Bugliari and Milano met through Gilmore Girls and This Is Us actor Milo Ventimiglia, a mutual friend of theirs. They named their son Milo as a tribute to their friend, and as Milano put it, “I loved that name, but when Milo was born, he just looked like a Milo to me and I thought it would be a lovely homage to Milo Ventimiglia for encouraging me to find my love.”
Reflecting on her marriage in her 2021 personal essay collection, Sorry Not Sorry, Milano wrote, “People often break out the old cliché, ‘Love means never having to say you’re sorry.’ Boy, do I call bulls–t on that. Love, in many ways, is a constant state of apology. It means recognizing the things that you fail at, knowing that the person you love sees them too, and trying so hard to be better at them.”
Shannen Doherty
The late Shannen Doherty was married three times. In 1993, she married actor Ashley Hamilton, the son of actors George Hamilton and Alana Collins. Their relationship received much tabloid attention, as they had only known each other for a couple weeks when they married, and their marriage lasted less than a year.
Doherty then married Rick Salomon, a professional poker player who became infamous for his two marriages to Pamela Anderson and his 2004 sex tape with Paris Hilton, in 2002. The marriage was annulled after nine months, with Doherty admitting, “I haven’t made the best choices in men.”
In 2011, Doherty had her third and final marriage, to photographer Kurt Iswarienko. They divorced in 2024, shortly before the actress’ tragic death from breast cancer at 53. Doherty alleged Iswarienko had been engaging in an affair while she was sick, saying, “At the end of the day, I just felt so incredibly unloved by someone I was with for 14 years, by someone that I loved with all my heart.”
Rose McGowan
Rose McGowan had a high-profile relationship with disgraced shock rocker Marilyn Manson in the ’90s. They broke up in 2001, and McGowan then dated filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, who directed her in the over-the-top 2007 film Planet Terror, from 2006 to 2009.
In 2013, McGowan married artist Davey Detail. They divorced in 2016. She then dated Rain Dove, a transgender model and activist, but the relationship came to a dramatic end when Dove got into a messy scandal involving selling text messages from an actress friend of McGowan’s to a tabloid.
In recent years, McGowan was reported to be dating a woman, and in a 2020 podcast, she took a fluid approach to her sexuality, saying, “I really don’t know. The whole thing is that I know people are a lot more comfortable with the labels. I’m in a relationship with this great young woman named Sienna right now, and she identifies as a lesbian, but I don’t identify . . . I don’t know.”
Holly Marie Combs
Holly Marie Combs was married to actor Bryan Travis Smith from 1993 to 1997. In 2004, she married David Donoho, a key grip she met on the set of Charmed. They had three sons, Finley, Riley and Kelley, and her first pregnancy ended up being written into the show’s sixth season. Combs and Donoho divorced in 2011.
Combs married her current husband, restaurateur Mike Ryan, in 2019. Combs first met Ryan at one of the restaurants he owned in 2016, and she recalled how they were at similar life stages when they found one another, saying, “We had both come to the point in our lives where we were very dedicated to our kids, and okay with the fact that we would probably raise them as single parents. It’s that age-old story of when you’re not looking for something, that’s when you find it. And it smacked me right in the face!”
