This last year brought us countless iconic moments that will go down in pop culture history, but one of the most exciting aspects of 2024 was the shocking celebrity pairings that we didn’t see coming. From award-winning actors and actresses to pop stars to supermodels, these six famous couples that linked up this year were some of the most surprising. While some have since gone their separate ways since getting together, 2024 was the year of superstar romances.
Gigi Hadid & Bradley Cooper
While it shouldn’t surprise us that one of the biggest actors in Hollywood would link up with one of the modeling industry’s most prominent figures, Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper are a pairing we didn’t see coming! Hadid had previously been in a relationship with Zayn Malik of famed boyband One Direction, with whom she shares a daughter, while Bradley Cooper had a serious relationship with model Irina Shayk, who he also has a daughter with. Though they were spotted with one another at the end of 2023, first prompting chattering of romance, by the time 2024 came around, they had officially achieved it-couple status. These days, the couple is still going strong!
Paul Mescal & Gracie Abrams
With Gracie Abrams’ music career on the rise since she joined Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour and Paul Mescal rising in the Hollywood ranks as he recently led Gladiator II, it doesn’t surprise us that these accomplished artists have found their way to one another. Photos of the couple looking adorably cozy began spreading like wildfire over this past summer, and since those early days, the duo have been out and about and loved up!
Lana Del Rey & Jeremy Dufrene
Lana Del Rey’s romantic endeavors have interested her fans for years, but perhaps the biggest bombshell regarding her love life broke only a few months ago when we learned that she had tied the knot with Jeremy Dufrene, an alligator tour guide who she first introduced to fans back in 2019 through a post shared to Facebook. Not too long after they were spotted together this past summer did the news break of their matrimony—and we wish them nothing but a lifetime of love and happiness!
Doja Cat & Joseph Quinn
The internet lore runs deep on this one, folks, and if you know, you know! As the story goes, after Joseph Quinn made his Stranger Things debut back in 2022, rapper/singer Doja Cat was smitten. She messaged his co-star Noah Schnapp asking about his relationship status, saying, “Noah can u tell Joseph to hmu,” followed by, “wait no. does he have a gf?” When Noah shared the screenshot of her messages to his TikTok account, one thing led to another and a brief and fleeting internet feud broke out. Though things were eventually resolved and as it tends to be the case with social media, things were blown far out of proportion, at the end of the day, it looks like Doja Cat’s pursuit of Quinn worked out! The couple was first spotted looking cozy over the summer, and while the status of their romance at the moment is unclear, we hope it works out!
Martin Short & Meryl Streep
Does it get any better than this?! Martin Short and Meryl Streep shared the screen in Only Murders in the Building starting in season 3 where they had an on-screen romance, and while there hasn’t exactly been confirmation that love has bloomed for these two (as a matter of fact, Short denied it earlier in the year), throughout 2024, this duo has looked cozy as can be in their various public outings, leaving people holding out hope that something has blossomed since then!
Sabrina Carpenter & Barry Keoghan
One of the most prominent couples of the year was pop star Sabrina Carpenter and actor Barry Keoghan, who was a talked-about figure after his role in 2023’s Saltburn. The duo’s relationship became a public spectacle, and their romance was put on even more of a pedestal when Keoghan appeared in Carpenter’s music video for her song “Please, Please, Please.” Though in recent weeks news has broken that this couple has gone their separate ways, when it came to 2024 celebrity romances, this one takes the cake.
