New York 2025 Spring Fashion Week is officially underway, and walking in one of the shows is everyone’s favorite TV scientist, Bill Nye. All about Bill Nye’s New York Fashion Week appearance
On Tuesday, February 4, Nye strutted down the runway at the Blue Jacket Fashion Show in a navy blue bomber jacket adorned with various outlines of Greek gods and goddesses. He then paired it with a pair of knee-length black shorts, black socks and black tennis shoes.
This wasn’t the scientist’s first time on the runway, though. Previously, Nye, age 69, walked in the company’s fashion show in 2017, 2020—which also happens to be the year he danced to Lizzo’s hit song “Juice”—and in 2023.
“Got to strut my stuff at the @bluejacketfashionshow. Big fun indeed,” the beloved scientist wrote on Instagram in 2023.
When he’s not modeling, Nye can be found hanging out with his wife, Liza Mundy, or posting fun science facts on Instagram.
Bill Nye’s history with the Blue Jacket Fashion Show
The Blue Jacket Fashion Show is an annual event organized by the nonprofit Zero Cancer, which helps raise money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. This cause is especially important to Nye because his father, Edwin D. Nye, suffered from the disease.
“My dad had prostate cancer,” Nye revealed in 2020 after his runway debut. “And you know you can test for this prostate hormone. So I think that we are, and by ‘we’ I mean researchers, are close to solving this problem and so to support this cause is cool.”
“It’s just fun. What’s not to love? I did not get my head blown off in Syria today. I am in a fashion show—I know—but the world’s still spinning, and we’re trying to raise money for prostate cancer research.”
Nye’s father died in 1997 at age 80, and ever since then, the TV personality has been working to draw attention to the disease.
“My dad lived at a time when radiation therapy was very good, but it wasn’t as good as it could be,” Nye said in 2023. “My brother and I keep an eye on prostate hormone because we don’t want to get it untreated. This is a very treatable cancer, but catching it early is really important. We think with more research, we can change the world.”
As of publication, Nye himself does not have cancer, nor does he have a rare neurological disease called ataxia, which can make it difficult to swallow, hard to walk and causes several speech impairments. However, his family does, so he also serves as “Bill Nye: The Ataxia Advocate Guy” for the National Ataxia Foundation.
“I think of it as ‘no-taxi,’ no getting around easily,” Nye explains on their website. “There are many forms of Ataxia. They are degenerative conditions of the nervous system that lead to loss of coordination and muscle control. “In my family, our form of Ataxia causes difficulty walking and trouble with fine motor movements,”
“I am hopeful that by spreading awareness, we can come together to help further research efforts to better understand it.”
