As a multihyphenate businesswoman and mom of four, it’s safe to say Ayesha Curry has a full plate. The wife of basketball superstar Steph Curry has carved out a name for herself as a cookbook author, TV personality and founder of the lifestyle brand Sweet July. Her latest project is a collaboration with Command Brand, which is centered on creating beautiful holiday decor without the fuss that seasonal prep so often entails.

Ayesha Curry spoke to First for Women about her holiday plans, maintaining balance as a busy mom, what makes her and Steph #relationshipgoals, what she hopes to do next and more.

Ayesha Curry talks holiday decorating and her latest collaboration

“Decorating is big in our home,” Curry says. “We’ve really gotten into it in the past four years—putting up the tree, putting up the garlands and elves and stockings. The nostalgia of all of that is great.”

Collaborating with Command Brand on a “loud, explosive holiday campaign” has helped her embrace her crafty side. “It’s been such a fun journey collaborating with their designers and the team,” Curry says. “From a selfish standpoint, I’ve been drawing inspiration to go back to my house and get into the holidays that much more. I’ve gotten so many cool tips and tricks on how to really create the wow factor within my home using minimal effort.”

Curry is also embracing holiday decorating as an antidote to all the stress in the world. “In light of the world right now, I’m really excited to just lean into the holidays and lean into my family and lean into decorating the house and all those little things,” she says. “Those moments you can’t get back. That’s what I’m focused on right now.”

Balancing mom life and career: Ayesha Curry’s honest take

Curry spends her days juggling a variety of projects while being a devoted wife and a loving mom to four adorable kids. Asked how she maintains balance with such a busy personal and professional schedule, she says, “The truth is I don’t really find balance. To each his own on whatever balance is, but I just do what makes me happy and what I feel passionate about. I try to make sure that my kids have beautiful, full lives and keep it moving, and that works for us.”

How Ayesha Curry unwinds: Surprising self-care tips

To unwind at the end of a hectic day, she reveals, “This is going to sound so cheesy, but it’s the truth—I’m big on watching Instagram videos of people organizing their lives. For me, being able to take some of those tips and tricks and organize little spaces in my home makes me so happy. It’s either that or a glass of wine.”

The relationship advice Ayesha Curry swears by

Curry also credits her long relationship with her husband as a source of joy. She met the future Golden State Warriors point guard back when they were teenagers, and they’ve been married since 2011. “What works for us is truly communication,” she says. “We talk to each other all day. We check in with each other. I think we both do a really good job of taking into consideration the other person’s feelings and that makes us best friends first. All of that makes everything else work really, really well. And I think he’s super hot, so that also helps!”

What’s next: Sweet July and acting plans

In recent years, Curry has been focused on building her Sweet July brand. “We built this beautiful community centered around gratitude in the small things,” she says. “That’s really what our messaging is to people, finding those beautiful moments in life’s everyday pleasures, whether it’s a cup of coffee or writing in your journal. Those things can keep you fueled throughout the day to bring you little increments of joy.”

She’s excited by how Sweet July—which encompasses a magazine, a store, a product line, a Jamaican-meets-Californian cafe and more—keeps growing and sees her brand as a positive space for women. “We’ve been able to storytell on many different platforms and bring women-focused businesses and businesses owned by women of color to the forefront,” she says. “Instead of going at it alone we’ve decided to join forces with the fierce women around us and uplift businesses as we go along. We’ve found that it creates this incredible community that we’re grateful to be a part of.”

Curry still has big ambitions outside of Sweet July. “I definitely want to get into more acting,” she admits. “I dove back in after a very long hiatus [with a role in this year’s Lindsay Lohan rom-com Irish Wish] and definitely got bit by the bug again.”

Wherever life takes her, Curry is bound to stay optimistic. The advice she’d give her past self is simple yet powerful—“Know that there are going to be moments of failure but try not to dwell in them. Feel the feelings, but recover from it and keep it moving because there is so much more beautiful life on the other side of it”—and her life today, with its bustling mix of creative projects and wholesome family time, is nothing short of aspirational.
