“Goonies never say die,” is how the age-old saying from the 1985 classic goes, and 40 years later, the cast that brought this iconic film to life are still standing in each other’s corner. Starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan, Kerri Green and Martha Plimpton as the kids at the forefront of the cast, The Goonies told the story of a band of misfits who come together and embark on the adventure of a lifetime to go searching for ancient treasure that could be the key to saving their Oregon hometown from the ramifications of a new country club heading their way. While some of the kids from the cast left showbiz, others went on to have wildly successful film careers.
The ‘Goonies’ cast now
Josh Brolin went on to star in blockbusters like No Country for Old Men (2007), Sicario (2015), Dune (2021) and countless others. Sean Astin is another member of the cast who went on to enjoy great success on the screen, starring in the wildly popular Lord of the Rings film franchise as Samwise Gamgee. He also had a role in Netflix’s Stranger Things that paid homage to his ‘80s fame.
However, of all the success to occur within the cast of The Goonies, one that’s jumped back onto everyone’s radar is that of Ke Huy Quan, who played the part of Data back in 1985. In 2022, his role in Everything Everywhere All at Once earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Since then, he’s appeared in American Born Chinese and the Loki television series, and his Goonies fam showed up in full force as Quan was honored at the TCL Chinese Theatre in California ahead of the release of his newest film, Love Hurts, opposite Ariana DeBose.
‘The Goonies’ cast reunion 2025
In a ceremony that took place on February 3, Quan was being honored with his handprint and footprint ceremony at the famed California theatre—and he didn’t do it alone! In attendance was Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen and Kerri Green, as well as Goonies screenwriter Chris Columbus—and the cast and crew said a few touching words about their co-star in a tribute that brought a tear to our eye!
Josh Brolin reads a moving Spielberg tribute
Brolin, who played the part of older brother Brand in the film, read a letter from none other than the film’s executive producer, Steven Spielberg, who was unable to attend the ceremony. “Ke, as always, I’m proud of you for your meteoric rise as a child, and then your second meteoric rise as a grown-up, and believe me, very few of us get two bites of that apple. The bite you have taken over the last five years has been to eat the whole d— apple. So enjoy every morsel, don’t wipe your chin, let it drip onto your tuxedo—your new standard wear—and seize the day,” Spielberg wrote.
Not only was this honor well-deserved, but seeing this crew back together brought us all the feels! “The Goonies till this day is still one of the greatest adventures of my life, and it wouldn’t be an adventure without you and all my fellow Goonies—Josh, Corey, Jeff, Kerri, Martha and Sean. So, thank you guys,” Ke Huy Quan said in a speech at the ceremony.
Quan’s new film, Love Hurts, is out on February 7.
