The explosive thriller series, The Night Agent, is about to resurface on Netflix and fans are gearing up to find out what exactly is next for Peter (Gabriel Basso) and Rose (Luciane Buchanan). The Night Agent became one of the most-watched series on the streaming platform amid its 2023 release and fans have been eagerly awaiting a follow-up.
After an incident on the subway, a low-level FBI agent, Peter Sutherland, is sent to work in the White House basement manning the Night Agent hotline phone — which never rings. But one night, it does, and Peter is thrown into a deadly conspiracy that ends up involving a mole in the Oval Office.
Season 1 was an immediate smash hit, with nearly 150 million hours viewed in just its first week. With season 2 set to drop on January 23, we’re looking back on the massive success of season one as well as what you can expect from the upcoming episodes.
What’s to come in season 2 of ‘The Night Agent’
The season 2 trailer shared a glimpse into what to expect for Peter Sutherland following the end of season 1. Viewers find out that there is a mole in the CIA who is selling leaked American intelligence information to the highest bidder. Plus, a surplus of experimental weaponry has been stolen, which the trailer claims is “enough to wipe out Manhattan.” As Peter tries to determine who is trustworthy, he goes AWOL to figure it out. The Night Agent’ season 2 cast details
Beyond the return of Basso and Buchanan’s characters, there are a few new faces that you’ll see in season 2. These stars include Brittany Snow as Peter’s mentor and partner, Alice; Amanda Warren as veteran night agent Catherine, Arienne Mandi as low-level aide Noor, as well as roles played by Louis Herthum, Berto Colon and Teddy Sears.
You may also see a return of Hong Chau’s Diane Farr, disgraced White House Chief of Staff, who was shot in the season 1 finale. Basso shared a bit of insight on what to expect from that storyline.
“Due to his belief in due process, he’s not going to be bummed that she’s alive,” the actor told Tudum. “But if Farr eludes justice, he’ll be a little more wary of [President] Travers. To be a traitor and not receive justice is not OK with Peter.”
As for Peter, his new role as an official member of the Night Agent organization, he might be facing a bit of danger in season 2. Netflix shared that his new responsibilities “will propel Peter into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.”
What happened in the season 1 finale of ‘The Night Agent’
While the end of season 1 tied up some obvious loose ends, there were a few things that were left open-ended, including what is next for Peter and Rose. While they did save President Michelle Travers (Kari Matchett) from an attempted assassination, there were a few things left to ponder. Viewers last saw Peter taking off for his first mission as an official Night Agent, but we’re left wondering what is next for Rose.
“[The ending] leaves it really open-ended,” Buchanan said. “I also want closure for her. I’m like, ‘This girl needs a lot of therapy after everything she’s been through.’”
