Throughout all of the It Ends with Us movie drama, people have been wondering if Justin Baldoni and the rest of the film’s producers would reunite to bring the book’s sequel, It Starts with Us, to life. And while there is no definite answer, Baldoni and some of the film’s stars have commented on a potential sequel. Will ‘It Starts with Us’ become a movie?
Given how popular both the film and book were, it makes sense that fans would want to see a sequel come to life. But given recent developments—including Blake Lively suing Baldoni for sexual harassment—those rumors have stopped in their tracks.
If they do decide to adapt It Starts with Us into a movie, though, it’s safe to assume that Baldoni will not likely be involved.
Back in August 2024, he even went on record saying that he wouldn’t direct the sequel because he thinks that “there are better people for that. I think Blake Lively’s ready to direct.”
Lively and the rest of the cast have yet to comment on the sequel, but they have all voiced their support for the Gossip Girl actress on social media amid her lawsuit against Baldoni.
That includes Colleen Hoover, who offered, “@blakelively, you have been nothing but honest, kind, supportive and patient since the day we met. Thank you for being exactly the human that you are. Never change. Never wilt.”
This was quite a shift for Hoover, who in the past sang praises for Baldoni for adapting her book into a blockbuster movie.
Hoover’s thoughts on It Starts with Us potentially becoming a movie remain unclear, but given how much love she has shown for Lively these past few months, it’s likely the author would be on board if the actress was.
What is ‘It Starts with Us’ about?
Released in the fall of 2022, It Starts with Us serves as a follow-up to Hoover’s best-selling book It Ends with Us. The story switches perspectives between Lily and fan-favorite character, Atlas. After Lily’s divorce, she runs into Atlas, and the love they once had is immediately rekindled. But as more of his past is revealed, will they be able to grant each other a second chance after so much time apart?
The novel was an instant best-seller thanks to Hoover’s signature heart and soul.
“This one begins about an hour after the epilogue ends in It Ends With Us,” said Hoover. “We do get a few scenes from the past, but most of the book is present-day in their world and follows the characters as they navigate life after the events in It Ends With Us.”
Who would star in an ‘It Ends with Us’ 2?
As noted above, the book mainly follows Lily (Lively) and Atlas (Brandon Sklenar), so if they do decide to adapt it into a movie, it is widely believed that Lively and Sklenar will be the stars of it. There are brief mentions of Ryle (Baldoni) in the book, but the main plot centers around Lily and Atlas reconnecting and learning how to navigate life together as adults.
When could ‘It Starts with Us’ be released?
