All about the Timothée Chalamet look-alike contest
Timothée Chalamet is an actor best known for his work in Call Me By Your Name, Dune, Little Women, Lady Bird and Willy Wonka. And this past weekend fans of the actors gathered to dress up like him.
“People tell me I look like Timothée Chalamet. People also tell me I look like Bob Dylan, and he’s playing Bob Dylan in a new upcoming movie, so I threw my hat in the ring, so to say,” lookalike participant Vincent Panetta said.
Other people gathered in the NYC park hoping to find the love of their lives.
“He [Chalamet] just has this charm to him that I feel like everyone falls in love with. He’s a very big fashion icon, and I look up to him in so many ways,” spectator Skylar Moody said. “Maybe I’ll find a couple of lookalikes that are single and available.”
In the end, a New York City native named Miles Mitchell won the $50 prize for his reenactment of Chalamet in the 2023 film Wonka.
“This was probably one of the best experiences of my life,” Mitchell said. “I was shocked and really overwhelmed [by the win], but it was amazing.“
Why Timothée Chalamet didn’t look like Timothée Chalamet at the contest
If seeing a pool of Chalamet lookalikes wasn’t enough, the actor himself decided to stop by the shindig and see all of his doppelgangers for himself.
Chalamet arrived while the competition was in full swing, wearing a black mask and posing for a few photos before getting in the middle of the crowd to reveal his true identity. The crowd naturally went wild.
“I wasn’t expecting Timothée to be here,” spectator Lola Wayne Villa exclaimed. “But I wanted to see some hot lookalikes.”
Other people echoed similar thoughts on Chalmet’s appearance, with event organizer Anthony “Gilbert” Po saying, “The event started out as a joke. To me, it will be until the very end.”
“But I have friends working on the movie set he’s shooting in Soho right now. He was talking about the competition, he knows it’s happening. But I’m not sure if this is the safest place for him to just show up.”
When he did arrive, Chalamet was accompanied by security guards. While he did interact with some people in the crowd, he didn’t make any remarks or pose for many photos. He also sadly did not enter the contest.
The scandal that broke out at the Chalamet lookalike contest
According to the New York City Police Department, the Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest was held without a permit, causing officers to arrive at the scene and break up the event.
After arriving on the scene, NYPD reportedly arrested Po—the event organizer—which you can see in a video posted to X here. Police also gave Po a $500 fine.
It is unclear at this time what happened to Po after the event was over, and if he was the one actually arrested.
