‘Wicked Part 2: For Good’—Plot, Cast and Release Date

Ozians, rejoice! With Wicked Part 1 dazzling audiences, fans are already looking forward to Wicked Part 2. Officially titled Wicked: For Good, the sequel promises new twists, deeper character arcs and possibly even the introduction of Dorothy Gale herself. From cast details to release dates, here’s everything you need to know about the highly anticipated Wicked Part 2.

‘Wicked’ movie release date: Part 2—plus details

Wicked Part 2—officially entitled Wicked: For Good—is reportedly set to follow the second act of the Broadway musical and will be released by Universal Pictures on November 21, 2025.

In that installment, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) deals with her new label as The Wicked Witch of The West while also trying to get over Glinda the Good (Ariana Grande), her Shiz University professor-turned-villain Madam Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) and The Wizard’s (Jeff Goldblum) betrayal. Elsewhere, Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) is dealing with his hidden feelings for Elphaba while being engaged to Glinda and Nessarose (Marissa Bode) is struggling in her new role as Governor of Munchkinland, but thankfully she still has her trusty Boq (Ethan Slater) by her side.

“If Part 1 is about choices, Part 2 is about consequences,” director Jon Chu said.  “Choices are difficult to make, but when you do make those choices, sometimes the result isn’t what you expect it to be. It can be lonely; it can be hard.”

It’s unclear at this time what “consequences” Chu is referring to, but according to Bode, one of them might involve the changes they are going to make to her character’s pivotal scene involving her becoming The Wicked Witch of the East.

“I wasn’t there for the actual script change,” the actress said. “[But Chu told me] ‘Hey, we changed this part in this way just so that it felt less like a fixing moment.’”

How does ‘Wicked: For Good’ connect to ‘The Wizard of Oz’?

In Wicked Part 1, viewers glimpse the beloved Dorothy, Toto, The Lion, The Scarecrow and The Tin Man walking down The Yellow Brick Road in the distance. It is unclear if this is before or after they see The Wizard, but this moment does give people a peek of what’s to come in Wicked: For Good

In the musical’s second act, it’s revealed that because of the Grimmerie’s magic, Boq becomes The Tin Man, Fiyero becomes The Scarecrow and the lion cub we see in Part 1 becomes The Lion. Then they meet Dorothy and begin traveling down The Yellow Brick Road to get a brain, a heart, courage and a home.

One thing that isn’t shown is how Fiyero feels about pretending to hate Elphaba—the love of his life—and how he and Boq deal with pretending like they don’t know each other while on their journey.

While it’s unclear if the film adaptation is going to show these things, fans of the musical are hopeful that they will.

Will Dorothy make an appearance in ‘Wicked’ Part 2?

Another thing that remains a mystery is whether Chu will make Dorothy a character. There is a small scene in the musical where Dorothy throws a bucket of water on Elphaba from behind a curtain, but that’s it. She is referenced several times, before and after that, though never by name. So unless the film decides to expand upon her character, it’s hard to believe that they will cast an actress in her role.

Of course, that hasn’t stopped people on the internet from theorizing who will play her, though they have all come to one conclusion: Matilda the Musical’s Alisha Weir

Weir was seen on quite a few Wicked red carpets despite not being in the film, but neither the actress nor the filmmakers have commented on it.
